Councillor says big thanks to hospital

A WORCESTER councillor will join with other parents from the community for a charity fund-raiser in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Coun Jabba Riaz and his wife will host the event at the Horizon Community Centre on Midland Road on Sunday from 1.30pm to 5pm.

The couple’s daughter was diagnosed with Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome, a kidney condition, in January when she was less than a month old.

She was admitted to the children’s renal unit at Birmingham where she spent the next five months in constant care, before being discharged to outpatient appointments three times a week and she is responding well to treatment.

“Whilst at the hospital we met other parents who travelled up from the city and surrounding villages whose children had similar conditions and we all were impressed with the service we had received,” he said.

“In light of this we are holding a community fund-raiser, to show our heartfelt gratitude to the excellent service we have received and continue to receive.

“The money will help support the children within the renal department of the hospital.”

A number of activities such as a jumble sale, raffle, henna and glitter tattoos, a bouncy castle and food and cakes will be on offer for guests.

The event has won support from the hospital’s fund-raising department and all of the money raised will go towards the hospital.
