PEOPLE living in Worcester are being urged to have their say on plans to improve play areas in the city, writes Surinder Uppal.

Worcester City Council is holding consultations on three schemes which are part of its Play Plan set out to improve areas in the city.

The consultations are open now and run until Sunday, March 16.

The council is proposing a new pump track at Perdiswell Park which will benefit from the existing parking, toilets and cafe at Perdiswell Leisure Centre.

The new track would feature a series of bumps, small jumps and corners and would cater for riders of bikes, scooters, skateboards, adaptive bikes, wheelchairs and roller blades.

Coun Hannah Cooper, the vice-chair of the city council’s place and economic development committee, said, “Pump tracks are great way for people of all ages to build their skills in a safe and controlled environment.”

The other proposal from the city council centres on a brand new playground with fencing at Weyburn Close in the Lower Wick and Pitmaston ward.

As well as extra play equipment, the proposals at Cornmeadow Lane include fencing around the area, along with biodiversity improvements, such as a new wildflower meadow.

Both parks are designed to have seating to provide a social area for teenagers.

Coun Cooper added: “The park improvements are part of the city council’s Play Plan, which sets out priority projects to improve play opportunities in Worcester and includes dedicated spaces for teenagers.

“These three projects aim to address a shortage of play provision in these areas of Worcester.”
