A PROPOSED new five-year City Plan for Worcester is being published for consultation by the City Council, setting out proposed themes and policies that will guide the authority’s work until 2026.
The draft City Plan has been supported by all four political parties represented on the City Council – Conservative, Labour, Green and Liberal Democrat.
The new City Plan covers five main themes:
Stronger and connected communities
A prosperous city
A healthy and active city
A heritage city with a 21st Century culture
Enhancing and sustaining our beautiful city for future generations.
The first edition of the City Plan was published in 2016, and this new version sets out how the City Council intends to work with partners to ensure that Worcester is a successful, vibrant and sustainable place.
Once finalised, it will be used to help set the Council’s own strategies, and also as the basis for making approaches to funding bodies and potential partners who may be able to contribute resources towards achieving the goals that the City Plan sets out for Worcester.
The leaders of the City Council’s four political groups – Coun Marc Bayliss (Conservative), Coun Adrian Gregson (Labour), Coun Louis Stephen (Green) and Coun Mel Allcott (Liberal Democrat) – set out the purpose of the City Plan in an introduction to the document.
They say: “Our collective vision is of a city that is prosperous, accessible, diverse and inclusive; with great opportunities for work, leisure, sport and tourism alongside a quality of life that is attractive to all.
“The central focus of this plan remains people and communities, making them stronger, more prosperous, helping them to fully participate in the experience of living in their city, to be connected to each other and to achieve their aspirations.
“We also want Worcester and its residents to play an increasing role in the livelihood and wellbeing of Worcestershire and in the growing prosperity of the West Midlands.”
The new City Plan will be considered when the City Council’s Policy and Resources Committee meets this evening (Tuesday) at which they will be asked to put the document out to public consultation.
It is intended that a final version of the City Plan will then be brought to the February meeting of the full council, to be formally adopted.
