Council cash on offer to bring Worcester together

Worcester Editorial 10th Sep, 2021   0

COUNCIL chiefs are encouraging Worcester community groups, charities and voluntary sector organisations to apply for grants of up to £2,000 if they are planning events, festivals or parties in the autumn or at Christmas.

Community grants will be considered for any proposal which will clearly benefit people living in Worcester.

Many of the city’s most popular summer events were supported by community grants from the City Council.

The Battle of Worcester Society staged a re- enactment of scenes from the last battle in England’s Civil War earlier this month, with a £1,000 community grant helping to cover the costs involved.

The Inland Waterways Association received a £2,000 grant to help pay for entertainers and prizes at the popular Perdiswell Festival of Worcester over the August bank holiday weekend.

Worcester City FC Supporter’s Trust also successfully applied for a £500 community grant, which paid for crowd safety equipment at Worcester Show’s Sports Zone on August 15.

“If you’re planning a local event over the next few months or taking action to make this Christmas extra-special for people in Worcester, then I encourage you to look at the support on offer from the City Council,” said Coun James Stanley, Chair of Worcester City Council’s Communities Committee.

“Funding is available to support initiatives which have a clear benefit to the community.  I strongly encourage local groups and charities to apply for a community grant.”

All applications must provide match funding equal to the amount of funding requested – but this can be in the form of volunteer hours, cash contributions or gifts in kind.
