Connie congratulates city collective

Worcester Editorial 24th Feb, 2017   0

A CRITICALLY acclaimed actress and singer has congratulated Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society (WODS) on reaching its 125th anniversary.

Connie Fisher recently paid tribute to WODS’ milestone anniversary with the National Operatic of Dramatic Association (NODA), of whom she is a patron alongside Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Connie is best known for winning the 2006 BBC One talent contest, ‘How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?’, from which she received excellent reviews as Maria von Trapp in ‘The Sound of Music’ in London’s West End.

WODS is affiliated to NODA and both share various connections, with NODA’s very first secretary, Mr HT Hadley, also being WODS’ secretary at the time.

Also, the joint patrons of NODA from 1922 to 1927 were Worcester-born music hall star Vesta Tilley and her husband Sir Walter de Frece.

An anniversary dinner was recently held at Worcester Whitehouse Hotel, where the Mayor of Worcester, Coun Paul Denham, together with the current National President of NODA, Michael Hastilow and WODS President, Trevor Guest, were in attendance.
