CO2 levels cut by 9 per cent this year

Worcester Editorial 15th Oct, 2017   0

CO2 emissions across the county have been cut by nine per cent in one year.

Worcestershire is reducing its energy consumption and carbon emissions, coupled with reducing its spend on energy across its sites and preparing for rising energy costs.

Emissions fell 23 per cent between 2009 and 2016 and following this the authority produced an Energy & Carbon Management Plan and set a new target to reduce emissions by a further 20 per cent over the next five years.

Coun Tony Miller, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Environment, said: “A nine per cent reduction in emissions in one year is extremely significant and testament to the hard work of the Council and its partners in ensuring we are reducing our environmental impact and saving the taxpayer money.

“We will continue to strive to reduce our emissions further, which is particularly important in these times of rapidly rising energy costs.”
