A FORMER city cabinet member has resigned his position because he no longer lives in Worcester.
Coun David Wilkinson stood down from Worcester City Council, where he has represented the Bedwardine ward for the past seven years.
The well-liked Conservative said his decision was motivated by his move to a neighbouring district as he represents Inkberrow on Wychavon District Council.
“I have decided to resign from Worcester City Council following seven happy and productive years, as I no longer live in Worcester,” he said,
“I’ve greatly enjoyed my work for the residents of Bedwardine, serving as Chairman of the Planning Committee and as cabinet member for Safer and Stronger Communities, and I will be sad to leave.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank my colleagues on the council for their co-operation, and the people of Bedwardine for their support,” he added.
The popular councillor paid tribute to hard-working council officers and wished the council well for the future.
The by-election in Bedwardine will be held on Thursday, May 4 – the same day as the Worcestershire County Council elections.
