THE MANAGING Director of Worcester City Council is to leave the organisation after five years at the helm.
Duncan Sharkey is leaving to take up a fresh challenge as a corporate director at Milton Keynes Council, but will remain in post until after May’s General Election.
Among his achievements is delivering £4.5million of savings against a backdrop of a 51 per cent reduction in Government funding to the council.
At the same time, he has has led a programme of improvement in the organisation, which has been recognised by residents.
Research shows a rise in public satisfaction with the council of 23 points to 68 per cent over the last five years.
At the same time, the proportion of people thinking the authority delivers value for money increased from 36 per cent to 54 per cent.
“It has been an honour and a privilege to lead Worcester City Council,” he said.
“The passion that all our staff have for Worcester is unparalleled and the many things we have achieved in the last five years are down to their hard work and commitment.
“I know that they will always do their best for this fantastic city,” he added.
Council leader, Coun Simon Geraghty, said: “I would like to thank Duncan for all his hard work with members to shape the future of the city and the council’s services.”
Councillors will be meeting in the next few weeks to begin work on the recruitment of a new Managing Director.
