A CARE home’s two year anniversary was celebrated by, staff, residents, the Mayor of Worcester and the city’s MP.

Coun Alan Amos and Robin Walker visited Latimer Court care home last Friday (February 20) to mark the occasion.

The Mayor gave a speech along with Natasha Davies, sales and marketing manager, followed by several poems read by resident Dorothy Capper.

Coun Amos said: “It’s been a fantastic day, it’s a really amazing and very caring environment and that is what’s most important the staff care.

“Everyone seems happy and well looked after, people just want to be involved, that is so important, they don’t want fancy things, they just don’t want to be ignored. It’s a lovely environment and I am proud to be part of it.

“They are right at the top with a 93 per cent satisfaction rate which is is amazing in any circumstances, and I can see why.”

Before the festivities got going, care assistant Heather Jenkins was honoured with vouchers, a bouquet of flowers and a certificate for her dedication to providing quality care and Dulcie Fletcher, the home’s first resident, was given a bunch of flowers from Coun Amos.

General manager, Karen Hancox, said: “It is important to recognise the hard work of our staff here at Latimer Court, as it is they who make this house a home.

“The day has been so special and everyone has worked incredibly hard to organise such a wonderful event.

“For two years now, we have provided a caring home for our residents as well as the best possible environment for our staff and today has been about saying a sincere and heart-felt thank you to everyone.

“I am delighted that our Mayor was able to join us to do this.”

Vocalist Debby Hill got the party underway encouraging staff and service users to dance and play instruments.

Resident Pat Snow said: “I’s been a lovely day. The speeches were the best bit and the music has been lovely too. If my grandson had seen me dancing he would of said ‘god grandma calm down’. It’s been lovely to have a great celebration for the day.”

The Darwin Avenue care home has 80 beds and is specifically designed to provide high quality residential and nursing care.

Mr Walker said: “It’s a lovely celebration it’s been really nice to come in and chat to some people. Everyone seems to be here enjoying the home.

“I have enjoyed being part of it. I think it is really important that we include the elderly and keep them part of the community.”
