Cancer survivor Andrew goes ultra for Rory Appeal

A WORCESTER cancer survivor who was given just three months to live 15 years ago is getting set to take part in his second 24 hour ultra marathon.

Local businessman and ex Royal Green Jacket Andrew Graham will be running the multi-lap 24 hour Ultra Marathon The Joust at Holt Castle to raise money for the Rory the Robot Appeal.

The appeal aims to raise £1.6million needed to fund a surgical robot to perform prostate cancer surgery

Andrew, 54, is participating in The Joust’s tough challenge for the second time and this year has the aim is to run for the entire duration, allowing for comfort breaks.

The caring businessman has been training for this event for several months and can often be seen running along the Southern Bypass, the Malvern Hills and the River Severn pathways.

“As a survivor who was given a three month prognosis in 2002, I know for myself just how much impact this terrible disease can have on people and how important it is to diagnose and treat as swiftly as possible with the least invasive method available!

“It is important that we all do whatever is possible to prevent our friends and loved ones from suffering.

“Rory the Robot will be performing approximatively 125 – 150 radical prostate cancer surgeries a year, and will reduce pain, minimise patient blood loss, and facilitate a quicker recovery with reduced complications.”
