A MALVERN couple are in the running to win the UK’s Best Summer Job with less than 24 hours for them to top the public vote.
If successful in the camping competition, the pair will receive £15,000 to travel the country camping and glamping in some of the most idyllic outdoor beauty spots.
James Silvanus and Helen George alongside their four-legged friend, Dougie, are one of just eight finalists in Hipcamp’s inaugural Best UK Summer Job competition.
The world’s largest provider of outdoor stays, which launched in the UK in May, will task the winning camping enthusiast to adventure across the UK this August, camping and glamping at 15 beautiful sites.
They will be tasked with blogging and vlogging original content that showcases the natural beauty and uniqueness of Hipcamp’s UK stays.
James and Helen have made it their mission to travel the UK in their converted van, Max. From local sites, history and dog-friendly spots, they’re looking to showcase the very best camping spots in the UK if they win this job.
James said: “Winning this competition will give us the opportunity to create some meaningful content and further support the sector and community which we love being a part of! “We’ve only just scratched the surface of what the camping scene in the UK has to offer, so to be able to take a full month to solely focus on seeing and capturing some amazing places, to share and inspire everyone following our journey would really be a dream job.”
Helen added: “Camping runs deep in my roots, my grandparents had a couple of original VW camper vans, my mum and dad had a camper while I was young and they still have a camper van now, so camping and travelling is very special to me. All of my holidays growing up were camping trips in the UK and I am excited to make more memories with James and Dougie in our own van. I’ve always loved connecting to the places I visit with the people closest to me having as many adventures as possible.”
James and Helen will compete to get as many votes as possible before tomorrow (Tuesday) to help them claim the top prize. The winner will be announced one week later, and will be chosen based on a combination of the total number of eligible votes, an interview with Hipcamp staff, overall technical ability, and creative experience.
