Calling for your views on polling

Worcester Editorial 16th Aug, 2019   0

A CALL for residents to have their say on the city’s polling stations has gone out from Worcester City Council chiefs.

Council bosses have made the call as part of a review of current locations and would welcome suggestions on alternative buildings which could be approached as polling stations for future elections.

In particular, officers are keen to hear residents views on how close current polling venues are to public transport, the safety of the sites and how easily they are recognised as a place to vote as well any other areas of concern.

“We want to encourage everyone in Worcester who is eligible to vote to exercise their democratic right and this consultation will help us to pinpoint and eliminate any factors which might deter voters from visiting a particular polling station,” said Shane Flynn, acting returning officer for Worcester.

“If you have views on how polling stations in your area could be improved, or would like to suggest alternative locations, then this is your opportunity to influence choices before the next election takes place.

The survey closes on October 10 and the responses will be considered at Worcester City Council’s Personnel and General Purposes Committee on November 4 with any changes being debated at council on November 19.
