A GROUP of junior police cadets have been welcomed by the South Worcestershire detachment at their new city venue.
The 14 new cadets in the junior cohort joined the 12 senior cadets at Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College on Timberdine Avenue, Worcester.
The two-year scheme is aimed at giving young people a practical understanding of policing, whilst enabling them to develop their skills and make a difference in their community through a variety of activities.
Cadet leader PC Tina Cowan said: “We are thrilled to welcome the new cohort to our group this week. Our new venue has playing fields close by, as well as its own court area where we will have the space to do drill and sports activities. We are very grateful to the principal Sean Devlin and the college for allowing us use of these excellent facilities.
“This term we will be learning about neighbourhoods and communities, looking at how the police engage with communities through things such as PACT meetings. We also have guest speakers from different departments and agencies scheduled, and the cadets will take part in local community policing events.”
Recruitment for 2017 will open towards the end of the year. Anyone currently in Year 11 who will be 16 years old by September 2017 can apply.
