A WORCESTER-born businessman has stepped out of Africa to return home and launch his own business.

After living in Africa for the past twenty years, Paul Meredith has returned to his roots to launch his own business, The ZipYard.

The 57-year-old hopes his new venture will offer customers garment alterations and repairs and has also brought in an on-site seamstresses and private changing rooms.

“Back in 1992 my wife and I made the move to Africa after I took an opportunity with a telecommunications company that was too good to miss,” he said.

“We had a great life and really got to explore the continent, living in Nigeria, Uganda, Cameroon, Kenya and South Africa.

“But there really is no place like home. Now that our children are all grown up and in the UK, we felt the time was right to move back and start on a new project together.

“I’d always wanted to run my own business and be my own boss and I’m excited to do it all in Worcester,” he added.

As a former chief technical officer who oversaw large scale projects for high profile clients across Africa, Paul is stepping into completely new territory.

“My wife and I are really excited about this new challenge and we’re looking forward to building the business together.

“We couldn’t have picked a better location for our ZipYard centre, Worcester has so much to offer.

“I think people will love The ZipYard and the services we offer.

“Most people don’t have the time to repair or alter their own clothes and so many good garments are going to waste just hanging in the wardrobe.

“Now people can bring these clothes into the shop and we will give them a new lease of life. Our seamstresses are amazing – if it can be done they can do it!”

The ZipYard Worcester is located at 36 The Shambles and is open six days a week from 9am to 5:30pm.
