Burglars target elderly man's home while he visits shops

CALLOUS burglars raided an elderly man’s home while he popped to the shops.

The victim, aged in his 80s, left his home on Tolladine Road, near the junction with Ambleside Drive, between 9am and 9.20am on Sunday morning (October 6).

While he was out someone broke into his property via an open ground-floor window at the rear of the house.

They then made an untidy search throughout but it is not yet clear if anything has been stolen.

Det Cons Dave Clews, who is investigating the crime, said: “Whoever committed this burglary ransacked an elderly man’s house and it has left him feeling unsafe in his own home.

“Tolladine Road is a busy street and I am confident there would have been people around on Sunday morning. I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area and saw anything suspicious to contact West Mercia Police.

“This crime is a reminder to us all that if you are leaving your home unoccupied, even for the shortest time, make sure everything is closed and locked up before you go out.”

DC Clews can be contacted via the non-emergency police number 101 or information can be passed on anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
