Bouncers were all properly licensed

Worcester Editorial 24th Mar, 2017   0

A CRACKDOWN to make sure bouncers outside Worcester’s pubs and clubs are properly licensed took place in the city.

Investigation officers from the national Security Industry Authority (SIA) joined forces with police and staff from Worcestershire Regulatory Services to visit 28 businesses in the city on Friday, March 3.

It is a criminal offence under section three of the Private Security Act 2001 for someone to guard the door of a club or pub without a license and full training from the SIA.

Bouncers working at all of the Worcester businesses visited earlier this month were found to be properly licensed with the SIA. However, licensing officers did identify two supervisors who were not wearing or displaying identification badges as required by law – both men were issued with a warning.

Coun Lynn Denham, cabinet member for Sustainable Communities at Worcester City Council, said: “Door supervisors regularly encounter violent situations; they play a crucial role in protecting public safety and maintaining order.

“I am pleased that door supervisors at all the premises inspected did have the right SIA training and licence – important to ensuring the public stay safe while enjoying a night out in Worcester’s fantastic array of pubs and clubs.”
