A GROUP of city students demonstrated their love of languages when they attended a prestigious spelling competition.

Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College sent a talented team of language students to the regional finals of a spelling bee at Aston University in Birmingham.

Tahmida Begum and Zunnane Klimek entered the French category, while Laurie Higgins took German and Sarah Carpenter showed off her Spanish spelling skills.

Becky Ward, teacher of Modern Foreign Languages at Blessed Edward, said: “All of the contestants did extremely well and we were delighted that Tahmida won second place out of 50 students in French.

“She now goes through to the national final at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge on July 4.”
