Be a friend and support Sue's Pitmaston Park plea

A BID to create a Friends of Pitmaston Park group has been launched by a Worcester resident.

Sue Smith has approached Worcester City Council for help to create the new group, which would seek to emulate the successful Friends of Fort Royal group which promotes the city’s Fort Royal Park.

In addition, Sue has also launched a Facebook group called ‘Friends of Pitmaston Park’ and has asked local residents who support her idea to join.

She said: “I have started to do litter picks in the park to help tidy it up, other people have commented they would like to help, I think we need to get organised and set up a group so we can work together with the council to look after this beautiful park.”

“I think it needs some investment, new seating, picnic benches, tree planting, cycle racks and a group willing to work together to make this special place even better”.

“I have written to the City Council to ask them for help to support a new Friends of Pitmaston Park Group, together we could keep the park clean and have some fun doing it.

“I hope all the users of the park, from dog walkers to children playing sport can come together as a community to protect the park”.

“A friend’s group would also be a good campaigning group to protect the park from any unwanted development or any possible sale,” she added.

A Worcester City Council spokesperson confirmed talks were underway to explore the possibility of a Friends of Pitmaston Group.

“The park is owned by Worcestershire County Council and therefore any requests for additional facilities would be for their consideration and approval

“We have recently consulted on the future provision of play space in the city and will be reviewing the feedback received over the coming weeks, with a view to developing a Worcester Play Plan which will set out how the council intends to invest in children’s and youth play provision over the forthcoming years.

“We will be engaging with Worcestershire County Council in respect of the feedback received from the consultation in respect of Pitmaston Park.”
