Baby you can play my car....

Worcester Editorial 11th Dec, 2013 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016

A PLUCKY city student combined his passion for music and motors to create a fully-functioning electric guitar from a car door.

Sam Mackintosh, who is on the Wood Occupations Apprenticeship at Worcester College of Technology, built his first guitar as part of his GCSE coursework.

The apprenticeship scheme has allowed him to continue his passion as he has been working on ideas at Morgan Motor Company in Malvern.

Mr Mackintosh said: “It was the first door I’d ever made for Morgan, but I set it in the wrong shape so it got put to one side and forgotten about. When I found it again a few months later I couldn’t bring myself to throw it away and as a joke my colleague suggested I make it into a guitar.

“I saw this as a challenge and spent the next six months working on it a couple of times a week after work. The guitar now lives at work– but sometimes I play a few tunes on it.”
