Ascot on the menu for Louisa

Worcester Editorial 20th Jun, 2017   0

A WORCESTER chef has teamed up with culinary celebrity James Tanner to serve up dishes at this year’s Royal Ascot event.

Louisa Tinkler will cook alongside the renowned restaurant owner, author and TV personality at his new pop-up ‘Queen Anne kitchen’ at Royal Ascot, which started yesterday and finishes this Saturday.

The 26-year-old, who works as a head chef at Dorney Lake in Berkshire, was just one of five colleagues to be recruited for the event from the 18-month Sodexo’s Chef’s Scholarship programme, which is designed to help develop the next generation of chefs.

Louisa will spend her week at the world-famous horse racing event bringing Mr Tanner’s signature menu to life, which includes dishes such as steak burgers, slow cooked lamb shoulders and Yaki Udon.

After completing a three-year training programme at Worcester College of Technology, Louisa moved to Eton to work as a junior chef before becoming head of hospitality and fine dining at Wycombe Abbey.

She has scooped an array of accolades throughout her career, including the 2012 Young MasterChef of Great Britain award and the 2017 Senior Sodexo Chef of the Year award.

She also represented the UK in the 2013 World Skills Competition, in Leipzig.

Speaking after her first day working in the Queen Anne kitchen, Louisa said: “It was a real honour to get the opportunity to cook alongside James Tanner and the wonderful team at Royal Ascot.

“I’ve worked at a variety of amazing venues and events, but working at Royal Ascot is definitely up there as a highlight of my career.”

Tom Allen, executive development chef at Independents by Sodexo, said: “We’re passionate about developing our chefs at all levels. The six chefs working alongside

James Tanner are from the scholarship programme, ranging from junior apprentices to sous chef.

“We have an amazing team at Royal Ascot this year, with each one working relentlessly to make sure the kitchen runs as smoothly as possible.”
