Animal charity gets cash boost

A WORCESTER animal charity has received a £5,000 donation to help provide accommodation and medical treatment for rescued animals.

Worcestershire Animal Rescue Service (WARS) received the donation from staff at Sanctuary Group after they selected the cause as their charity of the year.

Sanctuary employees showed their support by getting involved in a variety of activities including bake sales and raffle draws, while collecting hundreds of pounds worth of animal food and treats for the shelter.

Staff from Sanctuary Maintenance, part of Sanctuary Group, stepped in to provide skilled labour to finish a much-needed socialisation enclosure for cats.

A number of the group’s staff also chose to volunteer at the shelter as part of Sanctuary’s employee volunteering scheme.

Liz Hallam, trustee and voluntary fund-raising manager at WARS, said: “I was absolutely thrilled when we were chosen to be Sanctuary’s local Charity of the Year and I have really enjoyed working closely with all the staff that I have met during this period.

“We are also delighted to have welcomed many of the staff into our volunteer team. We will be continuing this relationship and will no doubt benefit from more volunteers in the future. I would like to say a big thank you to Sanctuary Group for all their support.”

Sanctuary’s chief operating officer Ian McDermott added: “We can actually see the difference our fundraising has made which is incredibly rewarding for our staff.

“We hope that the funds we raised, and the work our staff have carried out, will be of some help in continuing to find suitable homes for rescued animals.”
