MORE THAN 100,000 people packed the city’s streets as they enjoyed this year’s Worcester Victorian Christmas Fayre over four festive-filled days.
The annual event, which took place from Thursday, November 28, until Sunday, December 1, saw visitors flock to the Faithful City from all over the country.
Nearly 200 stalls filled the city’s streets as traders across Worcester kick-started the Christmas shopping season
The Fayre is a chance to step back in time, enjoying the sights, smells and sounds of how Christmas might have looked 150 years ago as the Victorian atmosphere fills the historic streets of Worcester.
This year’s event began with the traditional official opening ceremony when officials and Cathedral choristers moved from the Cathedral to the Cornmarket, where the Mayor of Worcester Coun Allah Ditta officially declared the Fayre to be open.
Carols were sung by the Worcester Cathedral Voluntary Choir accompanied by the Salvation Army, and there was a short biblical reading and prayer.
“The Victorian Fayre is one of the highlights of Worcester’s festive calendar, bringing in visitors from across the UK and the most remarkable mix of traders, all offering unique and exciting produce and gifts,” said Coun Ditta.
