Worcester Editorial 2nd Dec, 2021   0

THE COUNTDOWN to Christmas continues this weekend as Worcester’s Victorian Christmas Fayre returns

Now in its 29th year, the Victorian Christmas Fayre is one of the most prestigious street fayres in the Midlands. The event regularly attracts more than 100,000 people across the four days, contributing an estimated £7million to the local economy each year.

More than 180 stalls will fill the city’s streets from Thursday to Sunday (December 5).

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming people back to Worcester’s Victorian Fayre; visiting it is one of the highlights of festive calendar for so many people,” said Mayor of Worcester, Coun Stephen Hodgson.

“Many of the items sold at the Fayre’s stalls have been made locally. Coming to the event is a great opportunity to support our talented craftspeople and traders, who’ve had a particularly challenging year. You’re guaranteed to pick up some fantastic Christmas gifts and there will also be lots of great street entertainment too!”

Whether you’re looking for a Christmas decoration, a piece of unique jewellery, an unusual item for the home or some edible festive treats, you won’t be disappointed with the choice on offer.

Look out for Victorian characters in Gin Lane, lofty entertainers on stilts, children carol singing on performance stages around the city centre and buskers on every street corner.

The Fayre is a chance to step back in time, enjoying the sights, smells and sounds of how Christmas might have looked 150 years ago as the Victorian atmosphere fills the historic streets of Worcester.

County Hall is currently being used as a Covid test site, but Worcestershire County Council will be once again providing parking space in one of the car parks along with staff to help visitors in support of the Park and Ride service number 910 operated commercially by First Worcester Bus.

On Saturday (December 4), the first bus will leave County Hall at 8.35am, then 8.50am, 9.05am and 9.20am and every 10 minutes after that The last bus back from Crowngate Bus Station is at 8.10pm or from Cathedral Square at 8.15pm

On Sunday (December 5), the first bus leaves County Hall at 9.45am then every 15 minutes with the last bus back from Crowngate at 5.10pm and Cathedral Square at 5.15pm.
