Aiming to link up homes across county for the big garage sale

THE ‘Big Worcestershire Garage Sale’ organised by local estate agency Nicol and Co has already resulted in more than 20 streets signing up to take part.

This community project aims to get as many people as possible across the county to join together to declutter their homes and sell unwanted items during the mass event on Saturday, June 10.

Matt Nicol, managing director of Nicol & Co, said the number of streets taking part had already reached 22, which could easily result in hundreds of householders simultaneously holding their own garage sales.

And he said there was still plenty of time for other streets to sign up.

Streets in Worcester already signed up include Leslie Avenue, Deal Crescent, Summer Street, Northwick Road, Northwick Close, Lugano Road, Ombersley Road, Colesbourne Close and Green Lane.

Mr Nicol said: “We’ve had a tremendous response so far with 22 streets asking to take part with named contacts as the local organisers.

“The holiday season’s almost upon us and with money for treats a bit tight at the moment, we’ve started a conversation across the county by asking ‘What might you have at the back of the garage or in the shed, or in the loft that you no longer need and could even sell?’

“And there’s still plenty of time for people to sign up to involve their own street and neighbours in what will truly be a great civic event for the good of everyone.”

Nicol and Co is helping prepare for the ‘Big Worcestershire Garage Sale’ by providing signage and promoting addresses on streets where homeowners are taking part in the lead up to the big day.

Mr Nicol added: “The idea is simple – homeowners can get as many neighbours in their street as possible to declutter their homes to create more space and get rid of reusable items in the garage sale.

“Householders can potentially make a decent amount of money by pricing items reasonably and attracting buyers.

“Plus it’s a great way to meet neighbours and members of the community, with people coming from all over to browse through their items.

“We’re hoping that even more streets will get in touch with us to make sure that we can help them take part.”

Anyone who wants to get involved in the ‘Big Worcestershire Garage Sale’ day has until Friday (June 2) to let Nicol and Co know by e-mailing [email protected].
