Additional officers on patrol after Bilford Road gun incident

DAMAGED cans which have been shot at by an air rifle have been recovered by officers investigating reports of a man with a gun in Bilford Road this morning.

West Mercia Police were called at 9.35am after a report of a man carrying a firearm into a the woods close to Perdiswell Leisure Centre.

A thorough search was conducted in Bilford Road and the wider area and, while the man has not been located, officers have recovered the cans

Inspector Lee Page from West Mercia Police said: “We are now satisfied there is no ongoing risk to the public, however we will be carrying out additional reassurance patrols in the area.”




The incident took place close to Perdiswell Leisure Centre and a spokesperson from operator Freedom Leisure said: “An individual outside was claimed by a member of the public to be in possession of a firearm.”

“The correct procedure was followed, all of our customers and staff remained safe. This is now a police matter.


Despite reports to the contrary, Perdiswell Primary School was not on lockdown during the incident.

A school spokesperson said: “Children were brought inside during play time after the school was made aware of what had happened.”
