A robust effort to reduce crime

Worcester Editorial 24th Feb, 2017   0

A NEW police operation to reduce drug dealing and drug-related crime has been launched in Worcester by West Mercia.

‘Operation Robust’ has been set up in a bid to crack down on drug dealing and drive out the threat of Class A drug supply in the City, by focusing on protecting vulnerable people and premises that have been habitually used by drug dealers to supply their wares.

As part of the new operation, searches will be carried out at a number of addresses in Worcester over the next two months.

Sgt Adrian Bean, who is co-ordinating the operation, said: “Our focus is very much on vulnerable people as those dealing drugs often target such people, blighting neighbourhoods and pedalling misery.

“This operation is the start of several months’ worth of planned activity to target this illegal enterprise, which the communities of south Worcestershire no longer wish to tolerate.

“Operation Robust will give them the opportunity to rally behind a police scheme, which also includes their Safer Neighbourhood Teams, who will be seeking to issue closure orders on suitable addresses that are persistently used in the supply of Class A drugs.

“If the public tell us as soon as a drug dealer sets up, then we’ll go straight in. We’ll seize their drugs, their money, their phones and take them off the streets by making arrests. We’ll do everything we can within the law to make life difficult for drug dealers.”

Anyone who witnesses anything suspicious should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
