A lofty effort

Worcester Editorial 16th Aug, 2017   0

CARING employees at one of Worcestershire’s leading housing associations scaled the heights of a Worcester tower block to raise an impressive £2,660 for a local charity.

Thirteen employees from Fortis Living, which provides more than 15,000 homes throughout Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, took part in a charity abseil for Sight Concern which supports blind and partially sighted people.

Brave employees took to the top of Fortis owned Cripplegate House in St Johns for the charity challenge in June.

The event was the brainchild of Fortis Community Officer Chris Colley after he was approached by the charity.

After pulling together a team, Chris went the extra mile and encouraged local residents to take part.

The abseil became a family affair as his cousin’s wife Sarah Sanders, 33, a Fortis tenant from Wichenford who has terminal bowel cancer, was among those to take the plunge

Chris said: “Supporting our local community is at the very heart of what we do and we take our social responsibilities very seriously.

“The event was a huge success and a thoroughly enjoyable day, if not a little bit scary!

Our thanks to all our staff who took part and well done to everyone who was involved!”

Jenny Gage, Chief Officer at Sight Concern said : “We would like to say a very big thank you to Fortis Living for allowing us to use one of its buildings, for organising such a substantial team and most of all for raising such a significant amount of money.

“As a charity we rely heavily on donations and gift aid which allows us to continue to successfully support people with sight loss.”
