13,000 hours of help earn praise from Barnardo’s

GENEROUS Worcestershire volunteers have been praised by a national charity after donating more than 13,000 hours of help last year.

Barnardo’s has highlighted the importance of local support in advance of national Volunteers’ Week (June 1-7).

Last year 50 people offered a combined total of 13,300 hours of help in its shops and children’s services across the county.

Across the whole South West, almost 970 people offered a combined total of more than 183,000 hours.

However, despite this immense generosity, the charity still needs more support to transform the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children.

Barnardo’s regional volunteering adviser Caroline Dukulay said: “Volunteering is such a rewarding experience and available to people of all ages and backgrounds.

“It’s a great way to make new friends and learn new skills, together with gaining qualifications and experience which can help in the search for work.

Barnardo’s has retail opportunities at Mealcheapen Street and St Martins Quarter in Worcester. It also has children’s services roles in various areas.
