ALAN Richardson admits Worcestershire Rapids must show more power and dynamism with the bat following the club’s T20 Blast exit.

The Rapids suffered a 78-run defeat against Somerset at Taunton in the club’s final group game which proved a straight shootout for a quarter-final spot.

Worcestershire ended up bottom of the group on net run rate with the Rapids all out for 116 in reply to Somerset’s 194-7.

And Richardson stressed the need for Worcestershire to improve with the bat if the Rapids want to reach the quarter-finals of the competition next season.

Richardson said: “It’s really disappointing. We gave ourselves a chance to qualify which is a really good effort.

“I was pretty pleased that we were in a position to qualify, and then not to get there is very disappointing.

“We knew that it would be incredibly tough, but we also knew that if we kept them to what we thought was about a par score, which here [at Taunton] looks like late 180s/190, we felt like we had a chance.

“We knew that we would have to play really well, but we felt like it was a good wicket.

“I certainly think powerplay was tough, but the boys stuck at it and as is typical for the group, stayed very resilient and stuck together.

“I felt we gave ourselves a fighting chance in those last 14 overs.

“I could probably look at every game and have regrets. We were trying to work with what we had.

“With the ball, we have to be as effective as we can be on good surfaces, and with the bat we have to be a bit more powerful and dynamic.

“We want to compete and give ourselves a chance of playing quarter-final cricket. We have to be better next year.”
