Man jailed after drunken assault

A CITY man has been locked up for 16 weeks following a drunken attack after a night out.

Ashley Smith, of Larch Road, was also given four weeks to run concurrently after he pleaded guilty to two charges of assault, one causing actual bodily harm (ABH).

The incident happened on August 11 last year when the 22-year-old punched Jack Gilliard, causing him to break his nose, and Nathan Harris to the left cheek, as the pair were walking home from a night out.

Last Friday (March 14) Worcester Magistrates Court heard Smith approached them and asked how their night had been, he then reportedly told them they needed to walk quicker before assaulting them.

The court also heard how Smith, who is currently in custody, originally pleaded not guilty to the offence on October 16. He has four years and six months left on licence to serve.

Smith was released on license from prison on December 20 2012 for one year, before the re-call.
