AN AMBITIOUS plan which sets out a vision for Worcester over the next five years has been backed by all three party leaders on the City Council.

It’s the first time in the City Council’s history that all three leaders have united behind a single City Plan- a blueprint for services and priorities.

The document, called ‘Building a successful future on 2,000 years of history,’ focuses on what action needs to be taken, not only by council chiefs, but by public and private sector bodies and residents, to make sure the plan’s aspirations are achieved.

Five priorities are set out in the plan, including building inclusive communities, making Worcester an attractive place for businesses, making the most of the city’s history and heritage, providing the right environment and facilities so residents can lead healthy and fulfilling lives and taking action to protect, sustain and improve Worcester’s environment.

Coun Adrian Gregson Labour Leader of Worcester City Council, said: “We have come together as leaders of Worcester’s three political parties to formulate a shared vision for the city, ensuring the City Council’s approach and priorities will remain consistent between now and 2021.”

Coun Marc Bayliss, Conservative Group Leader, said: “By working together we can ensure the City Council’s long-term focus will remain on increasing prosperity and improving job prospects for residents right across Worcester.

“This plan sets out clear objectives to reduce unemployment, increase average earnings and to invest in the skills local people have to offer employers.”

Coun Louis Stephen, Green Party Leader, added: “I’m delighted that all three parties have prioritised the protection of Worcester’s environment through this City Plan.

“Now sourcing renewable energy, enhancing our natural assets and reducing congestion will be at the heart of everything we do.”
