Going a long way to bring in cash

A VICAR will be walking coast-to-coast to raise money for two causes close to his heart.

Chris Stuart, vicar of the churches of St John-in-Bedwardine, St Clement and St David in Worcester, is set to trek 192 miles from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire next month.

He hopes to raise at least £1,000 for Maggs Day Centre for the Homeless and the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign.

The walk takes in three of the UK’s National Parks, The Lake District, The Yorkshire Dales, and the Yorkshire Moors.

He will start his journey in late April and expects it to take two weeks, averaging 13 miles per day.

He said: “Last year I had a ‘significant birthday’ and I decided it was time that I got on with my bucket list! But if I do this, I decided I wanted to do it for more than just me – and so it made sense to try and raise some money for local charities in the process.”

Rev Stuart said he hoped family, friends, congregations and the community would dig deep and donate for two extremely worth charities.

“As the local vicar I come across lots of people facing issues with homelessness, so Maggs Day Centre here in Worcester was an obvious choice,” he added.

“And with family and friends affected by cancer, the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign appeal was an obvious local second choice.”
