Birth centre is near to due date

Worcester Editorial 22nd Jan, 2015 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

MUMS-to-be are set to be invited to a new midwife-led birth centre at the city’s hospital within the next few weeks.

Builders started work to turn the former antenatal ward and maternity triage area in to the Meadow Birth Centre in December last year.

The kitchen and family section is now currently being fitted out, the necessary plumbing for the birth pool is going through installation while the new air handling units were delivered by crane last week.

It will include four birthing rooms, which have already been chosen by patient representatives and members of staff. They will be Poppy, Cornflower, Daisy and Violet and will all be decorated in colours to reflect their name.

Rachel Carter, matron for midwifery, said: “Work is progressing at quite a pace and we are busy behind the scenes ensuring that the new team of midwives and maternity support workers who will work in the centre are fully trained and finalising new policies and procedures.

“Everyone is really excited to be welcoming the first mums-to-be in the next few weeks in to what will be a fabulous environment.”

The centre will offer a place to give birth for ‘low risk’ women from across the county who have had no complications or medical problems during their pregnancy.

Each room will have an en-suite and the block will be situated near to the current delivery unit, but not a part of it.
