Worcestershire switch pre-season games to Kidderminster

Worcester Editorial 14th Mar, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

WORCESTERSHIRE County Cricket Club will play their home pre-season games in Kidderminster as work continues at New Road to repair the damage caused by last month’s floods.

Steve Rhodes’ side will host Gloucestershire at Chester Road on Monday, March 24 before taking on Glamorgan in another one-day encounter on Monday, March 31.

The move comes after New Road was left under water last month after the River Severn burst its banks.

Ground-staff have since been working tirelessly to prepare the county’s home ground for the 2014 LV County Championship Division Two campaign, which gets underway next month.

Skipper Daryl Mitchell and his players will first be in action after returning from their pre-season trip to Abu Dhabi when they face Somerset in a three day friendly at Taunton on Wednesday, March 19.

They will also face Gloucestershire in a three day warm-up game at Bristol on Wednesday, March 26.
