WORCESTER Wolves ensured themselves top position in the BBL Championship at Christmas after an impressive home win against fellow title rivals London Lions.
The 93-64 win at the University of Worcester Arena was Wolves’ fourth on the bounce and the night was made even better when fellow contenders Sheffield Sharks suffered defeat against Glasgow Rocks.
The match also saw an unusual turn of events as Lions coach Vince Macaulay was ejected from the Arena in the first half for vocally protesting against the referee’s decision to award Wolves two foul shots.
The incident changed as the game as a low scoring battle turned to Wolves dominance as they contolled the remainder of the contest.
Andreas Schreiber repeated the form which earned him a spot in the latest BBL Team of the Week, bullying his way to a quick twelve points which helped Wolves to a decisive 45-28 lead at half time.
The second half began with a three-pointer from point guard Zaire Taylor as the home side looked to secure another impressive win.
Another double of scores from Schreiber, further extended Wolves’ dominance before a series of responses from London’s veteran English pairing of Julius Joseph and Mike Martin steadied the ship and pulled matters back to 63-47 towards the end of the third period.
A burst of scoring from Taylor at the start of the final quarter affectively ended the contest before five points from new signing Kai Williams and a basket from Will Creekmore saw victory sealed.
Worcester Wolves will look to finish 2013 in winning style when they face Birmingham Knights on Saturday, December 28 at the University of Worcester Arena.
