Weir pledges to keep the hair-raising going for Acorns

Worcester Editorial 21st Aug, 2020   0

WARRIORS’ Scotland international fly-half Duncan Weir is continuing his lockdown haircut until the New Year to raise money for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Unlike the rest of his team-mates, Weir has resisted the temptation to have a trim since social distancing regulations were relaxed last month.

He returned to training with a new bushy hairstyle which he will continue to allow to grow wild in an attempt to raise £4,000 for Acorns.

Alex Grove, another former Warriors and Scotland player, recently raised more than £30,000 for Acorns by swimming the English Channel and Weir hopes Warriors supporters will support and enjoy his own, less physically-demanding, challenge.

“I’m growing my hair until 2021 and raising money for Acorns, which is a charity that is close to all of our hearts here at Worcester Warriors,” Weir said.

“It’s a great cause. We know that Alex Grove just swam the English Channel which was a hugely demanding physical effort he had to put in to swim for almost 14 hours.

“I’m not doing anything as demanding as that. It’s a wee bit of light-hearted fun. If people enjoy the hair and have a wee bit of a laugh about it then hopefully they can donate and share and get the message out to raise as much money as they can for Acorns. We know that all charities during this time have been affected hard.”
