Washed out City face fixture pile-up in season run in

PROMOTION-chasing Worcester City are calling on Midland Football League bosses to extend the season as they face a growing fixture pile-up.

City will tackle Westfields at the Victoria Ground tomorrow night after another frustrating weather-hit weekend which meant two of their three Easter clashes rained off.

A George Forsyth brace helped City emerge from their trip to Shepshed Dynamo on Thursday with a 2-0 win but the visit to South Normanton Athletic on Saturday and Easter Monday’s visit of Herefordshire outfit Westfields both fell victims to waterlogged pitches.

City will visit South Normanton on Thursday, April 19 meaning the rearranged Westfields clash kicks off a run of nine games in just 23 days before the proposed final day of the campaign on Saturday, April 28.

Off the pitch, City chiefs have agreed a groundshare deal with landlords Bromsgrove Sporting for another 12 months with the option for a further year if needed as the club attempts to end its exile from Worcester.

In a statement, the club said: “Worcester City are of the opinion this arrangement has been a success and under the circumstances remains the best option for both first team football and their fans in terms of playing surface, overall facilities and match day experience and they are grateful to Bromsgrove Sporting for their continued support.”

As the agreement was concluded before Saturday’s FA deadline, City have now applied for entry into the FA Cup, FA Vase and FA Youth Cup for next season.
