Warriors pre-season plans take shape

Worcester Editorial 21st Jun, 2018   0

WARRIORS will warm-up for their 2018/19 Gallagher Premiership campaign by travelling to Italy to face Benetton Rugby before hosting Hartpury this August.

Alan Solomons will take his new-look side to Stadio di Monigo as they open their pre-season campaign against Benetton on Friday, August 10.

Benetton impressed in the Guinness Pro 14 last season, winning more than half their games in Conference B and taking some major scalps against the likes of Scarlets, Toyota Cheetahs and Ospreys.

Tickets for the match will be available at the gate at Stadio di Monigo, priced at €11.50 for Adults, €3.50 for Under 18s and free for Under 8s.

Supporters will then be able to see Solomons’ men in action at Sixways for the first time this summer when they host Hartpury on Saturday, August 18 at 3pm.

Hartpury, who travelled to Sixways during pre-season last summer, finished tenth in the Greene King IPA Championship during their maiden campaign in England’s second tier.

Tickets for the clash with Hartpury are available in the East Stand and are available to buy.

Tickets will be free for season ticket holders, £10 for adults and £1 for juniors.

The pre-season matches will provide opportunities for exciting new signings such as Duncan Weir, Cornell du Preez and Ashley Beck to impress the Warriors coaches ahead of the start of the new season.

* WARRIORS’ Pool C fixture times for this season’s Premiership Rugby 7s on Friday, July 27 have been confirmed.

Warriors will take on Bath Rugby in the second match of the day at 5.53pm before coming up against Exeter Chiefs at 7.23pm. Exeter and Bath will conclude Pool C with the final clash 8.53pm.

Warriors will be looking to build on their Premiership Rugby 7s performance from last season after they made it through to the quarter-finals after defeating Bath and Sale Sharks in the pool stages.

Premiership new-boys Bristol Rugby will open the tournament against Sale Sharks at 5.30pm before Northampton Saints close the opening day against Wasps at 9.38pm.

The Premiership Rugby 7s offers the chance to see the next generation of rugby stars go toe-to-toe, with talented youngsters from all 12 clubs mixing it with seasoned campaigners ahead of the new season in a fiesta of free-flowing rugby.

After the pools are completed on Friday evening, Saturday’s matches will start at 2.30pm and see the top eight ranked teams contest the Cup quarter-finals.

Meanwhile the remaining four sides will head into the Plate semi-finals as they bid to lift some early-season silverware before the tournament concludes at 6.45pm.
