Warriors back 24 hour Falcons fixture delay as Storm Arwen hits

Worcester Editorial 26th Nov, 2021   0

WARRIORS have backed the decision to delay their Gallagher Premiership clash with against Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park by 24 hours owing to severe weather conditions

The Sixways side were due to tackle the Falcons at 7.45pm tonight (Friday) but a decision has been taken to postpone the game for 24 hours owing to Storm Arwen. The match has now been rearranged for Saturday with 6pm kick-off.

A Met Office red warning has been issued – which stretches along the east coast from Newcastle to beyond Aberdeen – means dangerous weather is expected and people should take action immediately to keep themselves and others safe.

Gusts of wind and ‘exceptionally’ high waves have prompted warnings about visiting the coast. The notice runs from 3pm to 2am on Saturday.

Elsewhere there is an amber warning, with winds of 60 to 75mph.

“The safety of all – spectators, staff and players – comes first in making these decisions,” a Warriors statement read.

“In those circumstances it would have been wrong to have asked people to undertake a potentially hazardous journey.

“The majority of the Warriors squad travelled to Newcastle on Thursday and trained at Blaydon RFC, but other members of the squad, including travelling reserves and staff, made the outward journey today.”
