Warriors appoint O'Toole as CEO

WORCESTER Warriors have appointed London Irish’s commercial director Jim O’Toole as their new chief executive officer.

O’Toole, who has more than 25 years experience in the sports industry, will begin his new role at Sixways on March 1, 2015.

The search has been on to find a new chief executive since Charles Cameron was axed in February after just nine months in the position.

Bosses at Warriors told The Observer last month they had hoped to fill the vacancy before the start of this season. But after a ten month search, Anthony Glossop, chairman of the board, said he was confident they had now found the right person for the job.

“We are delighted to have secured Jim’s services,” he said. “He has a wealth of very relevant experience that equips him well to provide a leadership role in taking the club forward.”

O’Toole was a founding director of Premiere Consulting in 1996 – a consultancy delivering sponsorship-related solutions to clients including Barclays Bank, CIS Insurance and Eurobet.

Following its sale to the WPP Group, O’Toole remained within the organisation – firstly as group managing director of Premiere Group before becoming chief executive of 141 Sport & Entertainment.

He was appointed chief executive of Powerboat P1 in 2007 where he oversaw the operational management of seven Grand Prix of the Sea.

Three years later, O’Toole took up the same role with World Match Racing Tour – the world’s leading match racing series for professional sailing.

He became a founding director of Armstrong Kennedy Consulting LLP in 2009, where his clients included the FA Premier League, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Moneygram International.

In June 2013, O’Toole joined London Irish and has played a key role in the club increasing its merchandise revenue and becoming one of the Premiership’s top-five sponsorship performers.

Greg Allen, speaking on behalf of Sixways Holdings Limited, said he was delighted to make the appointment and thanked Glossop for his work as interim chief executive.

“I am pleased that we are in a position to make this announcement,” Allen added. “The club would also like to put on record its thanks to Anthony for stepping in as acting chief executive at a difficult time.”
