Warriors announce further signings

WORCESTER Warriors have bolstered their pack ahead of next season with the signings of Ulster hooker Niall Annett and Rotherham Titans duo Dan Sanderson and Ben Sowrey.

The trio, who will arrive at Sixways in the summer, take the number of Warriors’ recruits up to 12 as director of rugby Dean Ryan continues to piece his squad together for the 2014/15 campaign.

Ryan said: “I am delighted that one of the best young forwards in Ireland has decided to join us alongside two of the brightest talents in the Championship.

“Niall has developed well at one of the strongest teams in the PRO12, while Dan and Ben have been key performers for a club which is battling to win the Championship title.”

The signing of Annett will be seen as another big coupe for Warriors as the 22-year-old is regarded as one of Ireland’s brightest prospects having captained his country in the 2011 Junior Rugby World Championship.

And Annett, who has made eight appearances for Ulster this season, said he was looking forward to developing at Warriors.

“I have hugely enjoyed my time with Ulster and really appreciate the opportunity that David Humphreys and Ulster Rugby have given me,” he said.

“I am ambitious and feel I really need to push on. With what Worcester have got planned, plus their prospects for the next couple of years, it is a very exciting place to be joining.”

Warriors have continued to raid Rotherham with 6ft 8in lock Sanderson, 29, and hooker Sowrey set to follow fellow Titans star Charlie Mulchrone to Worcester at the end of the season.

Sanderson, who has previously played for Northampton Saints, said: “I’m excited to be joining Worcester and I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead.

“The set-up is first-class and Dean’s enthusiasm for the club really convinced me that this was the place to be. This is a big club with ambitions that match mine and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Sowrey added: “When I came down to Worcester for discussions I really bought into Dean’s vision for how the club will move forward.

“I’m looking forward to being part of the club’s future and developing under people like Carl Hogg and Nick Johnston.

“I’ve enjoyed my time at Rotherham and am grateful to all the staff for their support during my time there. I’m ambitious to make the number two jersey my own at Worcester and cannot wait to get started.”

Meanwhile, fly half Danny Gray, 30, has left Warriors on mutual consent having spent three-years at the club where he made 26 appearances.

Ryan added: “I would like to thank Danny for his contribution during his time at Sixways and wish him the best of luck in the future.”
