THE DREADED drop may still be looming large for Worcester Warriors as they trail Newcastle Falcons by nine points going into the final four games of the season

However, having finally dug out their first win of the campaign with victory over relegation rivals Newcastle, lock James Percival believes his ‘band of brothers’ at Sixways are more than capable of pulling off the great escape

Even before Worcester took to the field at Kingston Park, though, the 30-year-old said there was a strong sense of unity within the camp following their last-gasp defeat to London Wasps

And Percival said it was that feeling of camaraderie which could prove to be the difference as they prepare to battle for their survival

“Our defeat to Wasps was brutal, but I think it actually brought us closer together,” he said

“It made us see how far we had come and see how close we were as a group and that was a special feeling

“Don’t get me wrong, winning is everything in the Premiership but before that you have got to have a feeling of togetherness and a unity and that’s probably been the biggest problem with Worcester in the past

We have had a lot of players coming and going and changes in staff, but for the first time we have now got that feeling coming through

“Some of those players are leaving at the end of the season, but they are still buying into it which is a powerful thing and the last time I felt a feeling like this was when I was at Harlequins and we went on a good winning run

When you become a band of brothers, like we are, you can achieve a lot

To stand a chance of avoiding the drop, though, Warriors may need to chalk up three more wins from their final four fixtures, which include trips to Bath and Saracens

But Percival insisted there were plenty of examples in sport which prove anything is possible if teams continue to believe

“Dean (Ryan) showed us a video a few weeks ago about Ben Ainslie’s sailing team who came from 8-1 down to win the America’s Cup,” Percival added

“The story always rings in the back of my head and it makes me think why can’t we pull this off? “Why can’t we go away to Sarries and Bath and win?

“It’s just one man against another man and a team which is down can be a lot more dangerous than a team which is up, so let’s just see what we can do
