Solomons sorry to see David join Quins

WARRIORS full-back/wing Nick David is to join Harlequins at the end of the current season, Sixways chiefs have revealed.

David, a product of the Three Pears Warriors Academy, has been recruited by Harlequins challenge for the number 15 jersey when England full-back Mike Brown departs for Newcastle Falcons.

“We are sorry to see Nick leave the club, but fully understand the opportunity which he has at Harlequins to play in his favoured position of full-back,” said Warriors director of rugby Alan Solomons.

“Nick will always be welcome here at Sixways and we wish him all the very best for the future.”

David, 22, joined the Senior Academy at Sixways ahead of the 2017/18 season having impressed playing for Warwick School.

He made his senior debut against Saracens in the Premiership Rugby Cup in November 2018 and marked his Gallagher Premiership debut with a try against Bath Rugby at Sixways in February 2020.

He scored another try a week later against Bristol Bears and has now scored eight tries in 28 appearances with the majority of those coming on the wing.

David is currently sidelined by a shoulder injury which he sustained against Bath at The Rec last month.

Meanwhile, Warriors’ attack and backs coach Matt Sherratt is to leave the club at the end of the current season by mutual agreement.

Sherratt returned to Sixways last summer from Ospreys but will be released from the remainder of his contract. He will rejoin Cardiff Blues where he previously worked from 2016 to 2017.

“Jockey leaves with our blessing, his release from contract was a mutual decision and we part on good terms,” said Solomons.

“Jockey has been a popular member of our coaching staff and has made a valuable contribution during his time with us. He will always be welcome here at Sixways and we wish him all the best.”

Sherratt is in his second spell at Sixways having spent five years coaching in the Academy after arriving on an initial placement.

“I’m grateful to Warriors for giving me the opportunity this season, it’s a great club and I’m pleased to have been a part of Warriors again,” Sherratt said.

“This is very much a decision that has been made for personal reasons.

“I have enjoyed working with a talented group of players at Warriors and as part of the new coaching team this season.

Although results have not been what we would have hoped for, with the potential in the squad and the signings that have been made, the future is very bright.

“I wish everyone at Sixways all the best and thank them for their support during both my spells here.”
