Snape is relishing run-in

Worcester Editorial 22nd Feb, 2018   0

JOINT Worcester City boss John Snape has delivered a rallying call to his troops as he and Lee Hughes prepare to shuffle the pack during a busy period of games for the club.

The Blue and Whites have 16 league games to fulfil before the Midland Premier season comes to a close on April 28 and, with games still to be rearranged, the City chief is well aware of the need to use his squad.

City travel Coventry Sphinx on Saturday and Snape admitted he and Hughes would be keeping an eye on their squad.

“There are that many games left, playing two or three times a week, the rotation of the squad will be a key thing for Hughesy and me, especially when we go to Heanor.

“I’m looking forward to it, one or two might be looking forward to a start, one or two might need a rest, but at the minute the dressing room is buzzing.”

Saturday’s 3-0 win over Coventry United saw City record their third win in four games and third clean sheet during the same period as goals from Alex Tomkinson and former Malvern Town hitman Dave Reynolds (2) secured the three points.

City were dominant against their visitors and Snape praised his midfielders in particular for their contribution to the victory.

“I think the dynamics in the middle of the park, our engine room of Nathan Hayward and Brad Birch are a fantastic pair. They’re local boys and they work their socks off for everyone, long may it continue.”

Snape also praised the impact of Reynolds who hit his 20th and 21st goals of the campaign in the victory.

“Dave has come from lower level football, he’s learning from Hughesy every time. Once he got that goal he is a confidence player and in the last 20 minutes I thought he ran his socks off for us.

Saturday’s game at Coventry Sphinx kicks off at 3pm.
