Sixways D-Day awaits for Creevy

HOOKER Agustin Creevy has revealed he has just days to make up his mind whether to leave Worcester Warriors or risk putting his future as Argentina skipper in jeopardy.

The 29-year-old, whose contract runs out at Warriors in the summer, has become a popular figure at Sixways since joining from Top 14 outfit Montpellier in 2013.

His efforts on the field also led to him being named captain for Pumas’ last Rugby Championship campaign.

However, his career at Worcester looks set to be cut short as interest from Argentina’s new Super Rugby franchise grows.

From 2016 – when the league gets expanded to include teams from Argentina and Japan – Pumas selectors will only pick players based in Argentina, which Creevy said had put himself and Leonardo Senatore in a “difficult” situation as they look to keep their hopes of playing in September’s Rugby World Cup alive.

Speaking to The Observer, Creevy, who has made 36 appearances for his country, said he had just 15 days to look at the offers on the table and make a decision.

“I don’t know whether I am going to stay here or return to my country,” Creevy said. “I love playing for Argentina, but I need to see the offer.

“It is a difficult situation now, but when I make my decision that will be my decision, so if I go to Argentina I will happy and if I stay here I will do that and not think about it anymore.

“But I have thought about it and discussed it all with my wife and my family because for me this is the biggest step in my career. I am nearly 30 years old, so the next contract is going to be the best of my life.

“I have spoken to the coaches and the union and they have said they want me, but I don’t know the conditions and this will be the same situation for Leonardo (Senatore) and Mariano (Galarza), although Mariano is different as he has another year left at Gloucester.

“I love England and I have enjoyed living here, but rules are rules, so if I need to return to play for the Pumas then I’ll need to return, but I don’t know yet.”
