More signings in the pipeline says Ryan

AT LEAST two more players could be on their way to Sixways in the summer as director of rugby Dean Ryan makes his final adjustments to next season’s squad.

Ryan admitted his Worcester Warriors side was ‘not far off’ what he wanted it to look like for the 2014/15 campaign following the arrivals of Ryan Bower and Dan George last week.

The front row duo took Warriors’ signings up to 15 for next season, while a similar amount of players are set to go the other way in June.

However, Ryan revealed Warriors, who have been relegated to the Championship, had not completed their recruitment drive and fans should expect more transfer news from the club.

“We are not far off where we want to be in terms of recruitment,” he said. “Any deals within the squad are done already, so there are no late deals to be done.

“The squad is the easy part as you have got people here and you can talk to them on a daily basis, but the recruitment externally was the issue, but we are pretty much done.

“There are a couple of other people who are in the pipeline, but the majority of people are now in the public domain that we want to be here next season.”

Ryan said he was also pleased with the profile of players he was attracting to the club and he was confident they would be in a much stronger position than they were at the beginning of this season.

“We were trapped in a corner in June last year when we did not have certain positions covered,” he said.

“For instance, we had the Argentinians not coming until November, we didn’t have enough hookers to start the season with and we didn’t have enough loose-head props.

“So, to say there are key players around to fill those positions in June or July is just pie in the sky.

“But now we think we have got a group together that we believe can grow over this next period and we will look at strengthening as and when people become available and we think can add something.”
