Schreiber looking to 'punish' former club

WORCESTER Wolves’ latest recruit Andreas Schreiber has said his sudden departure from Plymouth has given him extra motivation this season.

Schreiber, who was released by Raiders coach Jay Marriott just three weeks into the season, will get an early chance to prove a point against his former team mates tonight (Friday, 7.30pm) when Wolves face the south coast franchise at the University of Worcester Arena.

Wolves’ director of basketball Paul James quickly snapped up Schreiber to his squad and since then has helped play a part in the club’s best ever start to a BBL Championship season – winning all six games played so far.

Wolves sit top of the BBL Championship and will be looking to secure a seventh straight league win tonight in front of what is likely to be another big crowd.

And the events of the last few weeks means Schreiber goes into the clash with added incentive but when previewing the game he said it was important to not let his emotions get the better of him on the night.

“Playing with a chip on your shoulder is a very powerful thing but learning to channel that emotion is the key to determination and success,” he said.

“My past involvement with Plymouth has boosted my motivation for this entire season and maybe even for my entire career.

“My current teammates all have my back on this matter. We want to punish the Plymouth Raiders and I have no problem saying that.

“Plymouth are a very talented team but there is no doubt in my mind that we will find a way to win this game.”

Schreiber, who has also represented Sweden during his career, said he has been impressed with the team spirit at the club since his arrival.

“We are not willing to accept any defeat whatsoever and I think our common goal is what puts us at the top,” he added.

“We play with no fear, even when we are down a few points. We play for each other.

“Paul James has done a great job in recruiting the best of leaders as well as saturating the team with an understanding of roles and cohesiveness.”

There will be no rest-bite for the Wolves team as they will travel to the East Midlands tomorrow (Saturday) to take on Leicester Riders in the BBL Cup quarter-finals.
