Safe City head north to face Workington

WORCESTER City make the long trip to basement boys Workington tomorrow (Saturday) with their Skrill Conference North status secured for another year.

Due to Vauxhall Motors tendering their resignation at the end of the current campaign, Carl Heeley’s men ensured they would stay in non-league’s second tier by beating Barrow 1-0 at Aggborough on Tuesday (April 8).

City go into the game with just one defeat in their last five league outings, whereas Workington have lost six out of eight and can be relegated if they lose and Oxford City pick up three points.

The Blue and Whites will have commanding centre-back Wayne Thomas returning for the game, after missing Tuesday’s success, but Aaron Brown is still missing.

Shab Khan played for the first time in three months against Barrow, but Heeley admitted the defender was highly unlikely to feature. Leigh Bedwell is again expected to retain his place in goal.

The Worcester boss also gave an indication he could change his side ahead of the long trip.

“We’ll have a look at the injuries we’ve got and we’ll try and freshen it up if we feel it will benefit and help us get another positive result,” he said.

“I have to be fair to the lads that have done well, but there’s one or two things, I want to have a look at Aaron Farrell, his application and attitude has been tremendous, so I want to have a look at him.

“It’s Santi’s (Santiago Aloi) last game Saturday, he’s been a little bit bit-part but that’s just the way it’s been, but we’ll see.”

The pair last met back in September when City got their first victory of their season with a 4-0 hammering at Aggborough.

Tomorrow’s game will kick off at 3.07pm in memory of the 96 fans who lost their lives at Hillsborough 25 years ago this week.
