Ryan unfazed by Windsor exit

DIRECTOR of rugby Dean Ryan is confident Worcester Warriors have enough fly halves for next season despite the departure of Sam Windsor.

The talented Australian, who sustained a shoulder injury ten minutes into his debut for Worcester Cavaliers, has agreed to join PRO12 outfit Ulster in the summer.

His decision has angered Ryan, who admitted he was under the impression the 27-year-old, who arrived on trial in December, would stay at Sixways.

With the future of Ignacio Mieres, whose contract ends in the summer, still up in the air, Worcester could start the season with just three first team players vying for the number ten jersey.

But Ryan believed rising star Tiff Eden, who featured in the British & Irish Cup final earlier this month, could fill the void left by Windsor.

“I don’t think it has left us looking elsewhere,” he said. “Tiff has progressed at a rate, while we have got (Tom) Heathcote coming in and we have got Millsy (Ryan Mills) and Lamby (Ryan Lamb).

“Sam has taken an opportunity at Ulster, which I can understand. I am disappointed because he is somebody we wanted to maintain a relationship with and the way we managed him after a ten-minute trial we thought we would continue with him.

“But when opportunities come around and they are more attractive than here then that’s life.

“I don’t hold anything against Sam for taking an opportunity, but we were under an impression of what we had done was about going forward with Sam.”
