DIRECTOR of rugby Dean Ryan has revealed a number of his players who came off the bench to help Worcester Warriors beat relegation rivals Newcastle Falcons will leave the club in the summer
The clash at Kingston Park was on a knife-edge before Josh Drauniniu scored the match-winning try in the closing stages and Ryan believed his replacements played a crucial role in guiding Worcester to victory
The Warriors boss said he was even more impressed as some of them had already agreed to depart at the end of the season
“There are guys who came on at the weekend and made a fantastic impact, but won’t be here next season” he said
“That shows the maturity of the group that we are able to do that
“I am delighted by the impact off the bench and if you are adult and fairly mature about those conversations I don’t think people feel any resentment
“There is a huge desire to do well in this place we are in now and that is a real credit to the individuals dealing with it
“It is not about changing people’s mind as it is about having a really clear idea about what we want this place to be and if people aren’t in the right space to take that opportunity we have got to move on
”
Ryan said he was pleased with the way his squad was shaping up for next season
“We have made a conscious decision to have a much younger squad and we are going to have to be a place where people are desperate to create opportunities for themselves, because the model the club has been using doesn’t work,” he added
“That leaves some people on the wrong side of things, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t playing well or contributing now
